twist. that's the key. it's not really "glue" but rather hardened heatsink compound. you just have to use pressure and twist

you sure. i've put a lot of pressure on it. also there isn't anything else holding this thing down. you sure it isn't something like ASII adhesive?

bcyl,

the fan died. :( i'm going to attach the blorb to it.

well, of course i can't be POSITIVE with regard to all of them. but the ones that i've removed (both cpu and vid card heatsinks) have all come off...they just really are stuck on there.

but maybe you SHOULD wait and see if anyone has some other ideas..then again, it's not like you could to much other than apply pressure and twist though

Some of these are put on with an epoxy compound which is VERY strong. You may be able to twist it off with pliers, but you may crack the chip in the process.

Is your card still under waranty? If so, I would just RMA it... it's not worth the risk of damaging the chip yourself...

hehehe

thx for the help fellas.

i figured either i get it off or i buy a new card. (btw, no it isn't under warranty, been about 2 yrs since i bought the thing).

anyway, i took the good ole screwdriver and i pried it off. now i got a blorb on there and it seems to run ok. we'll see tho. problems arose intermittenly before. i figure this baby is gonna have to last me till i see some real t&l based games. something that forces me to buy the Geforce3, till then it's just the good ole geforce1 sdr for me fellas.
