Listen, GAIN is ghey and I want nothing to do with it on my computer. However, I enjoy my Divx codec and player. This is the only GAIN supported software I use. I want to get rid of GAIN without getting rid of my Divx software. Is this possible? Please help me.

I am not aware of any DivX codec that requires adware to run...

What software exactly do you use?

Yeah, it really sucks that Divx won't work if GAIN isn't there. My solution has been to take GAIN out of the startup by editing the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete anything to do with GAIN, Weathercast, Save, and whatever other crap is deposited by installing software (just don't delete things that really do need to run!). It doesn't get them off my system, but it keeps them from running when the system boots. That way I can keep DivX and GAIN doesn't do anything.

No, my Divx software does not require adware to run. It simply is installed with the basic version of Divx that I downloaded from Divx.com. I assume they want to make money off of their Divx decoder and that if people don't pay for the pro version, at least they can make money buy advertising via GAIN.

Argh.

Does anybody know of way to just simply uninstall GAIN from my computer without uninstalling my Divx decoder and software?

Sure, pay for the pro version.

Or find a crack, it's no more dishonest than what you're trying to do.

AFAIK, GAIN isn't installed with the standard version. Only with the free ad supported version of DivX Pro.

Click here for the standard version (includes DivX Player).

Thanks xcript. For some reason, I was under the impression that I had to pay to use the standard version. I guess not. Thanks again!

DOWN WITH GAIN!
