Removing DVD drive from computer.

I found that during this year, I have used my DVD burner only a dozen times or so.

And with space being a premium inside my rig, I have thought about getting rid of my DVD drive completely. I no longer buy DVDs (though I still buy some PC games on disk if it's cheaper than digital retail), and I install Windows/Linux via flash drives, not through DVDs.

Has anyone gotten rid of their DVD drive on their desktop? Is this as wide of a practice as on laptops?

I don't have a DVD drive in my machine. I have one sitting around that I can hook up through an external adapter if I ever need one. But it has been a few months since I have needed a DVD drive.

I'm a gamer, so I've got a DVD/CD combo burner. I'm also lazy and can't be bothered to create images of my 100+ games, and that's excluding software. And some of them have so obscure copy protection that I'd have to go to annoying lengths to do so anyway.

I have a DVD RW and a Bluray ROM/DVD RW.

Not sure why space would be a premium. Do ya'll have small cases or something?

I have an Antec 300, but it's really cramped with four hard drives, a GTX 560 Ti, and a modular PSU whose cables which are way too long. I'm thinking about consolidating the hard drives so that I won't need to plug in as many cables.
