Removing Dust

Hey,

What's the best way to remove dust from my intel stock cooler, preferably without having to take it out, and avoiding any static damage.

Well, that said... I'm gonna need to buy a handvac.

But for now I could probably just blow it out (I don't have the can of compressed air with me) with my mouth... just kidding.

Any other alternatives that I could use .... something temporary I mean.... to just get rid of the dust. I'm looking for away to do it without having to go out and buy stuff (this is temporary).

there is no way... take it off clean off thermal gunk and wash it and what not or use tissue paper and slide it through each slot or get a can of comrpessd air and blow it off and suck up dust with a vacuum

On a somewhat related note, is "Dust-Off" compressed air? I bought 2 cans from best buy and want to make sure it's safe to use for removing dust...their own website doesn't seem to want to call it compressed air so I was checking.

thx.

Dust off I believe is compressed c02, just hold the can upright when you spray, if you hold it upside down a very cold liquid will come shooting out but it evaporates quickly.

Filters are good. I bought some more polyurethane foam filter material today. A good "open cell" foam filter won't reduce airflow significantly. Cleaning the filters is something you can do when you shut down the computer for maintenance, moving etc.

I make my own. I have many scissors.

Home Depot has Frost King 15"x24" filters in polybags for about a $1.50.

I had just bought some "Precisionaire" filters at WalMart and discovered that a lot of the cells are not open. They look like they have glass window panes in a lot of the cells. That does impede airflow and I am throwing it away. Hence my trip to Home Depot. I looked carefully at the material thru the polybag before buying this time.

The stuff will survive 4 or 5 washings before you have to replace it.

I have to clean out three computers every couple of months or so. The easiest way I have found is to take them outside, remove the side, and blow them out with the hose and crevice tool connected to the exhaust of my shop vac. I also use a small plastic rod to stick into the fans to keep them from spinning while I am cleaning them. The shop vac does an excellent job, much more powerful than a can of air............

Lucky for me my father has an industrial strength air compressor out in the garage, just set the nozzle for light flow not heavy, and you've got a brand spankin new PC case in about 10 seconds 🙂 Canned air available at staples or orrice depot will have a similar effect though.

it's kind of sad because I remember a time when my little cousin told me he needed to clean his computer. I thought he meant clean the case and side window, I didn't know he wanted to take out the dust from the MOBO, CPU, Vid card, etc etc. So, I told my little cousin to use Windex and tissue paper. Listening to me he did just that on a PII 1.2 GHz and his computer ceased to exist. I built him a new and better computer because of that. Oh well, you live and learn... or DIE trying muahahaha

Nowadays, you would sue the Windex company for not having a warning label on the bottle that warns you not to use the product for cleaning motherboards. Kind of reminds me of the lawsuit over the hot MacDonald's coffee that a patron spilled in her/his lap.

LOL
