removing drivers

hi so iv installed my new gtx 460 but i forgot to remove the ati 3650 drivers first!
iv tryed the ati driver uninstall program but i just get an error message.
i cant do a fresh os install because my vista is from hp so it has the ati drivers pre installed so i will be in the same problem.

im asking how to do this because after installing the new card i only noticed a 20 fps improvement on the old bf2 game!

thanks for any help!

hey, i have an amd 9650 i know its not great but i think it should easily handle bf2 since the games 5 years old!!! iv tryed to install xp pro but i think my bios wont allow it, and i dont want to pay for windows 7 until iv done all my upgrades.

and yeh iv used driver sweeper, iv managed to uninstall the catalyst control thing but i think theres something still going on.

thanks for the help happy medium uv been great with all my probably dumb questions lol

try uninstalling all the drivers Nvidia and ATI and start over.

After that check for bottlenecks, turn the graphic settings up to high and check your fps, then turn them down low and check your fps. If the fps are the same or close ,your cpu is not pushing your new card enough. At least you'll be closer to figuring out the problem. Get back to us. 🙂 and your welcome.

Graphically the original BF2 game probrobly is not pushing your new card, its an old game.
Do you have a more modern game to try? You could download 3d mark 06 or vantage and get an idea where your card stands.

i get about 40-80 fps maxed out every thing low i get around 140ish, do you think its the cpu? i would have thought it would work fine on a game form 2005 lol. tomorow im tempted to retry xp pro because i know vista is pretty bad for games and thats all i realy use this pc for

a 9650 is a turd of a cpu. in games that dont use more than 2 cores it gets killed by any decent modern dual core cpu. even in games that use 3 or 4 cores, a fast good dual core cpu is almost always faster.

No, its not your cpu then.

try 3 mark vantage , you should score about 12,000 for the GPU score not the overall score.

You get one run for free, this should tell you where you cards stands.

His cpu is not the bottleneck in this case. 140 fps on low settings and 40 to 80 on high.

just so you know many settings affect the cpu. there are games that run perfectly fine on low settings with my cpu at 2.0 but bump them to high and its much slower and sometimes unplayable. that is how they get away with having such slow cpus listed for minimum requirements.

EDIT: btw I am speaking in general terms here and not saying the problem in this specific game is his cpu.

If thats your score with your card at stock clocks, you are fine . 🙂
It must be the game or drivers that are not optimized for a older game like that.
I would not be worried.

EDit: Do you know your card will overclock at least 20% faster very easily?
Try "MSI Afterbuner".
http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

Its perfectly safe , I would try 825 core and 900+ memory for starters.

I smell a format. Going from nVidia to ATI , or ATI to nVidia trips out the system. Its gonna be slow... gotta format,, go clean..

Running Driver Sweeper in safe mode and something like CCleaner a couple times will get rid of those nasty bits without reinstalling Windows (if that's what you're inferring).

if i overclock do i loose my warrenty? and iv tryed driver sweeper and i get error messages, i can eaither try and install xp pro, or upgrade to windows 7, but will i have to rebuy windows 7 if i change my motherboard and processor?

In most if not all cases yes, check your manufacturers websites for terms and conditions.

What messages? Are you running in admin mode? What are you attempting to Clean? How are you going about this?
