Removing a videocard from a computer

I plan to remove my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro from my old computer to my new computer.. on this old computer.. there wouldnt be any ramifications for doing this, right? Except for the inability to do anything graphics related.

Well, the monitor doesn't exactly plug into the serial port. Believe me I've tried. Cmon...

Nothing will happen as long as you do it soaking wet with the computer powered up - otherwise the BIOS graphics accelerator will get jacked up, and you don't want that to happen. Using a spray bottle to wet the card down first helps it slide in and out of the socket too, as does astroglide.

If the motherboard has onboard video, you can still run the computer. If it doesn't, you'll need a vid card to do anything at all. Now get the hell out of ATOT half the people here don't have a clue to what you're talking about

what do you expect will happen? the computer will blow up? just uninstall any ATI drivers next time you put in an nvidia video card into the old computer.

You asking about the ramifications?

If you have integrated video, then you will still be able to use the comp for basic stuff.

If not, you won't be using the comp till you put another in there...

I'm not sure if it has integrated video.. itis a Dimension 4550.

or just check on the back of the computer if you can plug in the monitor to any sort of adapter.

no you won't plug that into a printer port.

If you want to remove an integrated video card, you have to disintegrate it first. I think you'll find what you need by googling "disintegrating visualization."

If it's not integrated, then you can just remove the video card. After removing the old card, boot your old computer up again. When you see the Windows loading logo, then there were no ramifications.

Just look at the back of the PC, does it have a video port.

i cant beleive some who posts in anandtech doesnt know how to remove a video card. if you dont have a video card you cant plug a monitor in it, thus you cant use it. unless it has onboard video. see if there is another port your monitor plug in can fit into.
