Removing a Pioneer headunit

Deeko

Lifer
I just got my new car, '94 Mazda 626, and it has a Pioneer CD player in it. I want to install my Panasonic. I went to pop out the Pioneer, and I can't figure it out lol....on my Panasonic there is a little lever that you push that pops it out, there is nothing like that on here...anyone know how I might go about pulling the sucker out?

On each side of the deck there should be two slots that are about 1/4" wide(tall). Those slots are used to insert special keys that latch into the side of the deck and then the deck is pulled out.

Hey there.

Likely you'll need to visit a car stereo installer.

With most Pioneer heads, you unclip the trim bezel, and then insert two small sheet metal 'keys' to unlock the head unit from the sleeve. And then you just bend the tabs out on the sleeve and pull the sleeve out.

If you dont have the keys, you'll probably have to find an installer. Most of them have a box full of the things.

Hope this helps.

<< Hmm...I don't have these keys lol will anything that fits in there work? >>

If you have a local best buy or circuit city, they should have the keys in their Car Installation department. They usually will let you borrow them since it takes only a few seconds to get the deck out. I really dont know how else to get it out, since the keys are designed especially to latch into the deck.

Hmm..I work at Circuit City so I should probably be able to finagle myself the keys 🙂 Thanks
