So i have this pea sized tumour/deformation/lump thing on my arm. Doesnt really cause me any problems, but it is unsightly.

I dont have health insurance, will it be very expensive to have it sliced out? ballpark figure from anyone that has had such lumps removed...?

Or should I have at it with a pair of scissors and some duct tape?

Edit: Lumpy thing on my arm

You'll need more than scissors. Exacto knife + peroxide + roll of paper towels. No need to worry about infection ....

My wife had something similar to that on her elbow a few years ago. Turns out it was a fatty cyst pushing against the nerve. Wasn't really bothering her but she had it removed and it has grown back and is worse than before. :Q

Thats always a possibility, even more so if you "do it yourself". The wall of the cyst must be completely removed otherwise this will happen. Also, if you care about how it looks consult a cosmetic surgeon, they are FAR better at creating a clean closure that won't scar.

Covered under insurance i assume? Hmm otherwise that would not be money well spent :(

I dont know, I'm guessing its probably just a cyst. Its not a mole, its a lump under my skin. Im paid hourly so I dont have the time or money to go to a doctor unless im sure I will be able to afford it.

If its cancer, well, I lose. :p

Oh yeah definitely covered by insurance it. If not, she would still have it (or a nasty scar from the scissors and duct tape). ;)

I would probably have an experimental go at that with a blade - sterilized of course.

You might find it's just full of pus or something, but if it isn't, I'd go to the doctor. Doctor is free here though so it's not really the same... I can't imagine having to pay for medical care... that must be sh1t.

Yeah its pretty sh1tty :/ I miss the NHS.

I dont think its puss, since I can kind of move it around a little by pushing at it.

i wouldn't do any kind of self surgery. even if you use alcohol you can't sterilize it as much as a hospital can.

But they'll take your lungs now. Gills come in a week.

I had a doctor here quote me @ $100 to remove as many moles he could in 1 hour (he guessed 3 or more)

it could be the same, but I don't know what they do for a cyst or whatever you have.

it isn't really expensive, he said its the same fee cause you pay once for a whole box of supplies they need to do it so all you pay for extra is the time unless he needs more than the one box.
