Alrighty. Got a boot virus on a drive. Tried the "boot to a clean write protected floppy and do fdisk /mbr" but no luck.

Anyone with another idea? Thanks!

If you know someone with a pc that has anti-virus software, they could make you an emergency boot disk. Or whatever their anti-virus calls it.

You should be able to boot off this and clean up the virus.

Hmm, fdisk /mbr really should have done the trick if it is truly a boot sector virus. The only time I'm aware of where it might not work is when you have multiple partitions, I think six partitions or more, or one of those drive overlay utilities installed.

Here's some antiviral boot sector tools:

Net-Z Utilities

MBR-Kill - Generic cleaner and immuniser for all kind of boot viruses infecting the MBR. Can by-pass ACTIVE stealth viruses (e.g. Parity.Boot), thus removing infections of "overwriting" viruses like NEUROQUILA, MONKEY, IMPLANT or ONE_HALF. Replaces the MBR with a self checking virus resistant MBR loader.

Boot Protector v1.02

Oh and I was wrong above, you shouldn't use FDISK /mbr on drives with more than 4 partitions.

The drive is only one partition. I shall try those. Thanks!
