replacing a crappy HS on an older system (P4 1.4Ghz)....with the retail HS from a P4 2.26Ghz.

my question....

should I even replace the thermal pad on the stock heatsink...and put Arctic Alumina on it instead?

thanks!

* Alumina is all I have now.

** I won't be overclocking as my Intel board doesn't allow it, but the machine has to be on 24-7. I was wondering if moving to Alumina will significantly decrease the temps.

*** I don't want/need to get a new heatsink. Machine has to be up already.

Alumina is fine. That's what I use because it is cheap, works better than pads or no compound at all and is easier to clean off than silver stuff. Yes, remove stock pad and use the Alumina.
