Remove round pads on T-Bird before clamping?

I have seen that T-Birds typically have four round pads on the top of them. presumably to keep the chip from getting crushed when putting on a fan. I recently bought my first Athlon and a Koolance case. Should I remove these pads to get maximum contact between the liquid-cooled copper plate and the cpu?

I don't think you should. You should keep them on ensure that your core doesn't get crushed.
