Got a new Alpha PEP66U for replace my Globalwin FOP32-1. Problem was that I forgot to plug in the Fan and "phhhht" went the Duron. I've ordered a new one already unlocked, but I don't know how I'm going to get the Thermal Sensor off the old one and onto the new one. I have three new P2T (Thermal Sensor)cables because I ruined one before changing HSF, but this one still work and I would like to reapply it. Has anyone moved and reapplied these? And How?

Several things come to mind. If the heatsink was in place, the cpu should have survived for some time. Destruction is only assured when no heatsink or fan is present....perhaps the heatsink wasn't square on the cpu or wasn't in contact with it at all.

What did you attach the therml sensor with? It's usually taped in place on the ceramic part of the cpu package, toucing the core. I can't see why there would be a problem removing it. Did you glue it down?

The HSF not sitting on the CPU correctly might have been the problem that started it all. It boot up but would freeze up during ATA100 initialization. When I removed the fan to apply a little more Arctic Silver the power cable came loose. It was on for 10 seconds when I noticed the fan still. The power took 4 seconds to shutoff the machine and at 1.9 volts it didn't take long. Other people have done the same thing within a couple of seconds. The AMD Tbird and Duron are only the hottest cpu's around.
