Remove overclock during spring/summer?

My Sempron 3100+ is currently overclocked to 2250 MHz, but now that it's warmer outside, the chip temp has risen to 51°C under full load, which it always is since it's running a DC project.

The chip used to perform the crunching tasks at anywhere from 45°C - 48°C during the winter, when my house was cooler.

I've heard that 50°C is the "magic number" when you should start to worry about the temps. Should I remove the overclock, or can the chip go even higher? Remember, it's under full load 100% of the time, so the temps are always when the chip is at 100%.

EDIT: stock cooling, BTW.

My X2 4600+ runs at the same exact temps you posted between winter/summer. I am personally leaving my little 200 Mhz overclock on... I run Dual Folding At Home clients so the CPU is always pegged at 100% in my case too. It should be fine... personally, I will start worrying myself if it gets to 58-60°C.

EDIT: In case of your edit, if you are a little worried, a simple upgrade in the cooler will benefit the CPU and put your mind at ease.. that'd be the easiest route IMO.

Okay, that makes me feel better. This is my first build (and my first overclock, naturally), so I'm a little anxious.

Does it matter that your chip is an X2 and mine's a Sempron? Do X2s run even hotter, since there are two cores?

I have a Big Typhoon cooler on my processor so we can't simply compare apples to apples in this case... upgrade your cooler for a few bucks and you'll definitely have lower temps than me!

Cya - getting back to work now... =)

50c won't hurt a sempy at 2.25. The lower the Mhz, the less temperature sensitive (stability wise). Still, low 50's is toasty but not harmful.
