I have a client that wants to be able to remotely view the security monitors at several locations from her home as well as let anyone (certain people) view them at any time. AFAIK, I have no clue on hooking security cameras up to computers for monitoring. I have never done that, but I am guessing I could do it through RCA jacks???. She also wants to record the cameras so that in case there is a problem she can go back to the tape. As of right now I dont have a clue on how many cameras she is talking about, but I think she could pass through VCRs for recording then onto the computer. Someone mentioned recording the video onto computer, but I would not IMO.

What program & equipment (cameras / server) would be the best for this? UltraVNC? PC Anywhere? camera packages?

The connection will probably be Cable internet between everything. Is this possible?

We've set several clients up with Axis cameras, but personally, for 3 businesses, I'd farm this out to a security company and fish for referral $$$.

"While CamPanel supports just about any single camera connected by USB, Firewire, or a capture card, special features are required for duplicate cameras to work together on one computer. Multiple ADS USB2 Webcams and multiple Watchport/V Webcams do work on the same computer with CamPanel....
Multiple Hauppauge WinTV GO analog camera capture cards also work with CamPanel."

I have 80 cameras at work that flow via multiplexor into a dvr. I can view from anywhere via vpn but it's a very expensive ssytem. I also have a terrabyte of storage to keep these feeds for a year and a day.
