What is the easiest and secure remote access software? I want to help my friends to troubleshoot her computer. Both her and I are behind firewalled router. I would like to stay away from windows messager. Please advice, thanks

Since your both behind firewalls just forward the ports on both sides and use TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com/). Be sure to use password protection.
Ideally (assuming it is you helping her) she would only start the server on her side when you are ready to help her and then shut it down when done. That way it is not running 24x7. But TightVNC is pretty secure anyway.
If she needs a step by step on setting up her router send her to the correct page at Port Forwards (http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm)

The free version allows remote desktop control

It's not free tool! Look at <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://secure.logmein.com/go.asp?page=purchase_pro"><a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://secure.logmein.com/go.asp?page=purchase_pro">https://secure.logmein.com/go.asp?page=purchase_pro</a></a>
$12.95 /month, per PC or $69.95 /year! I think, it's very expensive...

wow, you are really clever. I repeat, the free version of Logmein offers Remote Control.
