HI
Looking for software to let me look at or monitor a computer remotely. I have a desktop that is located on the second floor and a laptop that I use on the frst floor.
Desktop is connected to my little home network via ethernet cable thru a trendnet switch then to my Verizon supplied fios router/modem.
The laptop is connected via wifi.
There are times when I am recording music from the internet using the desktop that takes a few hours or so. I would like to monitor the progressusing my laptop to look at the desktop to make sure all is well.
Oh,, running win7 on both machines.
Is there software to let me monitor and possible control another pc from my laptop?

Running Norton 360 on both pc's.

After I posted this I tried to access the desktop via the laptop using win7 remote feature. Accesses system them remote to make sure it is enabled.
Then went to the network connections, right clicked the desktop pc and tried to access.
Message came back saying that the remote was not turned on, the remote computer is not available on the network, remote server access is not enabled.
Thanks

Remote Desktop. Built into Windows. Use the same log in and disconnect vs. log off.

What OS are you running on the desktop?

Windows 7 Home Premium does not include the Remote Desktop Server you need, so you'll need to install a third-party product. http://www.tightvnc.com/ used to be good, but I have no recent experience with it.

Sotty, didn't ask what version of Win7. Ultra VNC works well, as do many of the other VNCs.

Some, like LogMeIn, connect remotely throught their servers. While great for connecting while you are not at home, I would stick with something you host yourself.

I support both of these programs.

UltraVNC or TightVNC (or any VNC client) works great on the LAN. I imagine you can set it up over the internet if you do port forwarding on the router.

For simple internet remoting, LogMeIn is great. Its simple enough that I can get average computer users to install it over the phone so I can access their machine.
