I share a DSl connection with my brother on second floor. I'm on first. He has the router, it locks up a few times a week and it needs reseting everytime. I don't have access to the second floor when he's not home. Is here a cheap device that I could use to remotely shut off the power of the router and turn it back on?
The router is a 4 port wireless DSL router.

Some ideas.

1) If your brother has a UPS or turns his PC off during the day, and you really really needed the internet NOW, you could just go to the basement and throw the main power switch for a second. That'd probably be a bit drastic though :D

2) Instead of buying something to reboot the router, save your pennies and buy a new router.

3) Go to Home Depot, get the proper DSL line (it's thicker than regular phone wire), and run it straight from the green box outside to your PC. Install Raspppoe, and run Connection Wizard. Then you've got your own line and no router.

I have a seperate DSL line in my house and the DSL works both thru the phone lines and the DSL line. We only use the DSL line for our connection though so I'm not sure if there would be any problems using both at the same time.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the x10 also. I have gone to the basement many times to shut off the main power switch.
i think I'll give the X10 a try.

Thanks
