I've got chrome remote desktop up and it works fine. I've tried using Microsoft remote app on my phone and can't seem to make a connection. Anyone using it or know a site that contains a good how to guide for the windows connect app?

After a little tinkering, managed to connect while within my wifi, but going Internet and I fail to establish a connection even though everything says it's set up properly.

Remote Desktop Protocol isn't going to work over the Internet without some special configuration changes to your router. It's not the same as Chrome Remote Desktop.

Any reason why you don't use a Teamviewer service install on a Comp. and then the Teamviewer App?

Just be sure to add the Authy App and 2Factor your TV account of you chose to use it.

RD is great for connections within a local network. Over the internet, not so much.

SplashTop works over the internet.

On the phone, if it's Android get the RDP (beta) version, works better but like already mentioned, you have to do some port forwarding on your router.

For remote desktop you have to forward port 3389 to the computer you want to connect to in the router.

Did that. Over my wifi or lan it works fine. Over internet I get can not connect to gateway 0x3000008 error.

The mouse controls of RDP so much better than available in CRD, but if I can't use it while away from home network doesn't serve much purpose.
