Is there a way to use remote desktop to access a Windows XP Pro workstation in a domain via a Win2K terminal server? My wife needs to remotely access her business' accounting software that is installed on a Win2K workstation and the terminal server. The accounting data resides on a second server. Currently this is no problem, but the latest version of the software does not support Win2K, and she will need to upgrade the software later this year, so the software won't be able to be installed on the terminal server. If an XP Pro workstation was used, and the software installed on that but the data still kept on the server, would it be possible to access the workstation by remote desktop, assuming that the software will allow a data path to the Win2K server?

Yea, you're extremely limited in how many people can log into an XP workstation via RDP (might even be just 1) but you can do it.

Remote desktop on an XP Pro client is a 1 person limit with it taking over the PC from the user. Expect RDP from a terminal server to be slow in most if not all cases. It is also time to replace win2k. Security updates end in March 2010. Win 2k is near its death bed.

Also having no idea what accounting software you are using, it is hard to tell you how well it will work really.

We figured it was time to replace these dinosaurs. She inherited them when she bought the company from her former boss a few years ago. The software is Peachtree Accounting and it must be installed on the server too so a new one is required.

If Im understanding you correctly the new version will be installed on a XP Pro system and that software uses data located on another server (assuming database\files). If so yes 1 person can connect to a XP Pro system and as long as the PC has access to the server it will be available to the RDP user.

If multiple people need to access it at the same time that wont work.

I dont know if its really legal but http://www.xpunlimited.com/ has software that can turn a xp box into a TS box.

Also, you may want to concider putting it on a vista system or you could find yourself in the same boat in a few more years.
