Remote Desktop question

Hey guys, I have a couple of quick questions involving Windows XP Remote Desktop.

When you set up a host for the remote desktop through Windows XP's client, how exactly is that infomration accessed by the client? IS the information sent to a microsoft server somewhere and you access that server by running the remote desktop client?

Also, is it possible to skip all of that and just connect to the host directly thorugh an IP address?

Thanks guys

remote assistance is the more user-level remote control where access is based on invitations, etc.

remote desktop is used for the latter case. just enter the ip address and off you go. just make sure its setup on both client and server, as well as an open/forwarded port 3389.

So does the information on the host always stay between the host and client, or is that information ever comprimised by windows XP?

I'm asking because I'd like to set up a remote access point on a secure network out of our office and be able to connect directly to their system without any information being compromised in the process.

Thanks

Hey guys,
I tried to connect to the host and recieved this message:

"You cannot initiate a Remote Desktop Connection because the windows login software on the remote computer has been replaced by incompatible software FIXGINA.DLL"

I'm pretty sure the FIXGINA.DLL is used by a program called iFix, which is used for controls and automation and must be kept on the computer.

Any ideas on how to fix or bypass this problem?

I would recommend looking through this thread:

Good info in there. I tried Ultr@VNC and I like it better than Windows Remote Desktop. Since you are worried about outside security, there's an option to encrpyt the information sent between the 2 computers with UltraVNC. There are also some programs that you can "tunnel" the connection through which are mentioned in that thread.

I suggest you talk to iFix's maker (GE?) and see what they suggest. The iFix User Forum seems to have posts about using Citrix and there also seem to be remote terminal solutions offered by iFix.
