remote desktop (multiple station)

I have 3 XP Pro workstations at home that I would like to access on my XP workstation at work using Remote Desktop. Now, do I put each station on different port?

No clue about that one, I only have used 3389 for it. Can you get out of the work network now? have you remoted to any of them?

I don't think you can change the ports RD uses, so I'm not really sure how you could do this without having a vpn server at home. That way, you vpn, then select which workstation you want to connect to.

You can, however change the ports many VNC variants use, so you could set up different ports in VNC on each machine, then forward the appropriate ports to the appropriate machines...I've never tried this before, but I'd be interested to know how it works.

I'm currnetly using port 3389 for all three stations as well... I can remotely log in2 my PC at hmome...but only to 1 station..

i am not sure i understand, but..

just RDP into one box from work ( i assume you are forwarding 3389 through a router ) , then from that box, RDP into the other boxes on your LAN

you can daisy chain RDP , i do it 2-3 levels deep all the time (we have a freak network at work, you don't want to know, it sucks)

or just use VNC, it is easy to change ports with VNC

Multiple VNC sessions sucks...talk about a damn refresh nightmare. 🙂
I do wht he said, I just do multiple sessions through other systems.

You cant RDP into a system more than once anyway....and you cant change the port without doing some type of redirection somewhere else..like on a firewall

The RDP listening port can be changed. I have an XP box listening on 3390 and a 2000 box listening on 3389. Here is a link to Microsoft's website for instructions. It's just a simple registry change. If you are using a router you will need to forward the new port aswell.

Hey, thanks, that's basically what you do with VNC...didn't think it would be so easy for RDP! 🙂

Yep, use different ports. Or do what I do when I access my office machines from home - VPN into the remote network. From there, you can access any machine using their internal IP address.

That's what I said; he'd have to set up a VPN server at home.
