I don't have any firewall software installed.. I disabled microsofts firewall.

I fowarded the port 3389 to the correct ip in the router.. but it still won't connect.

I can connect fine locally through my computers.. so that means that i have remote desktop enabled and everything.

I also tried enabling DMZ to the computer I wanted to connect to and still couldn't connect.

any other ideas?

Is Remote Desktop enabled on the computer you wish to connect to?

Are both computers behind a router?

Do you have an account setup on the Host computer (the one to connect to) with a password?

Is this a one time thing, like your mom or friend that lives accross country?

yes it's enabled. (I can connect to it locally)

yes all my computers are behind a router.. but I have the port fowarded (3389) to the computer I want to connect to (192.168.11.123) in my router config.

yes, my main administrator account has a password to it.

no, it's so I can connect to my main computer when I'm not at home.

Do you have a static WAN IP at home?

If not, are you utilizing a service such as DynDns.org?

Edited because I'm doing too many things at once.

no my wan ip is dynamic. but i'm positive the ip i'm using is my current ip. (I'm at home right now, and having a friend to test and see if it prompts him for my username/password when he tries to connect.)

my computer i'm trying to connect to has a static lan ip, and that's the one the 3389 is fowarded too.

Scratch that. You Log Off. I read your post backwards. Sorry about that.

In case you didn't see my post before the edit. Have your computer in the logged off state and see if he can connect.

I misunderstood at first and thought a friend was at your home and you were trying to connect to your home computer.

logged it off.. still won't connect.

this doesn't make sense.. I've had it working before (I'm moved around a couple of times)

I'm going to try and plug my computer straight into my modem and try that later today.. to see if it's a router problem or something that's blocking it on the computer.

Yes, that sounds like a plan. I'm no wiz at this stuff, but I can RDP into my wife's office from home. I just migrated to Vista and tried for the first time under Vista and got right in.

Not being a wiz, I'm out of ideas. I wish I could have helped.

One thought;

I have 3389 forwarded to my computer here at home too. Remember, I connect from here.

Honestly, I'm not sure if that's necessary, but I do have it set up that way.

This looks like it could be helpful.
