Im having a problem connecting to another computer in my house (not networked, 2 diff cable modems) using Remote Desktop Connection. I checked the MS Page for updates for it, but there is only one that fixes a firewall issue, and I dont have one. Should I try the update? Because I think my ISP has a built in one? Any ideas?

Well I havne't had a chance to use remote connect going through the internet, but there is a program that has the software available through a webpage. Follow the steps at http://www.microsoft.com/WINDOWSXP/expertzone/columns/russel/02January14.asp

When you install the program, you can access it through YOUR_IP/TSWEB This is exactly like remote desktop, but the files are on the computer you want to connect to.

As for the upgrade I would download because it could also fix other things with remote desktop.

Well I hope this helps you out.

Have you set the computer to accept remote connections?

Remote Desktop is basically Terminal services...by the way, the port that it uses is..let me back to you on that

3700 if I remember correctly....

Actually, Remote Desktop uses port 3389.

As Spy said, make sure you can ping the other machine. Then, ensure that Remote Desktop access is enabled on the machine you're trying to connect to. Right-click on My Computer, select Properties, select the Remote tab, make sure the checkbox for "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" is checked. If you have problems logging in, add your username to the list of users who can connect to the machine by clicking the "Select Remote Users" button.
