Remote Desktop Connection keeps disconnecting with black screen

We've got a problem at work, most of the guys in my office, myself included, need to use a terminal server for general apps (our specialist industry-specific app runs natively on the workstation, and for support reasons nothing else gets installed).

However, every time anyone minimizes an RDC window for more than about 2 minutes, when they restore the windows, the comp hangs at a black screen for a couple of minutes and then a "attempting to reconnect 1/20" window appears, before the RDC session reappears.

This happens with everybody in my office, every time. The clients are XP SP3 or Windows 7, and they are connecting to a dedicated 2008 R2 terminal server.

Is this normal? Or is there some sort of server problem? We've already tried moving to a different server, but the problem remains.

Sounds like a timeout... don't know enough about Win RD to say how you'd configure this but that's what I'd google (Remote Desktop timout).

Who's the systems/server admin at your office who designed the server 2008 server? Ask them to look at the remote desktop configuration, under connections go into the properties and see what the settings for the tabs there, specifically the sessions tab.
