Remote control woes with Xbox and Media Center

I've got an Xbox 360 and a Vista Media Center in my TV room and bought an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote. The problem I've got is that both my media center and the Xbox receive the signals from the remote, so if I hit "Power" both turn off, "Play" and they both start to play etc. Is there a way to force one of the devices to ignore the remote? Or am I better off just forking over the dough for a Harmony universal remote? TIA.

Yes, it lets the 360 ignore a Media Center remote and only respond to a 360 remote. However since my remote is a 360 remote, I'm stuck with two devices that "listen" to the same remote and no way (yet) to make one of them stop.

If you're OK with it ignoring all remote control commands, just use a piece of electrical tape over the IR port. A little ugly, but it gets the job done.

unfortunately no solutions here, i just wanted to bump since i'm in the same boat. i haven't been playing my 360 much, so i simply unplugged the power cord for now. however, i'd like a more reasonable resolution
