Remote Control Software

So here's my situation. I have a laptop that I want to be able to bring around the house and use 3D Studio Max on and other hardware intensive programs. However, my laptop is pretty slow so I can't run 3D Studio Max well and it takes forever to render. Also, I want to use my laptop since it's a tablet and I could basically use it as a Cintiq when I'm at my computer So, I'm looking for some Remote Control Software that I can install on my computer and use my laptop to control everything.

Does anyone know of any programs that could do this without lag or delay? I found MaxiVista but that apparently wasn't compatible and had a lot of errors.

Oh, and my desktop is running Vista Business Ultimate x64 and my laptop is running Windows XP Tablet Edition. I could upgrade to Vista on my laptop though if there aren't programs that are cross-compatible... Although... that would probably make my laptop even slower.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

no.

remote control software is only for non graphic work. it doesn't update fast enough to use for something like graphic editing.
they also tend to use tricks/compression so its really not feasible. video data at full bandwidth is massive stream of data.

There is one solution from HP, but it's for more business use than anything. I'm not sure if it's even available for just anyone to purchase. However, I do know that it works and does what you need. What they've done is use a protocol that only sends screen data across the network.

HP Remote Graphics Software: http://h20331.www2.hp.com/hpsu...86504-0-0-225-121.html

It was developed to use over VPN connections to make it more secure, and also more useful. No actual data gets transferred on the network, just the display bits on the screen (hope that makes sense, you'll have to read the documentation for the exact terms). Anyways, I've tested it a couple times now for work and it works as advertised.

It's developed for CAD and 3D software to be used remotely and ensure a local feel to the software. Again, probably not feasible if you can even obtain the product, however these is software that exists to do this.

I'm fine with compression. I was actually using the demo version of MaxiVista and it seemed to do it fine without loss of quality. Granted though it was only running at 640x480, but it was fairly smooth and had good enough quality. However, when I tried installing the newer version it didn't work out.

If there really isn't though is there some way that I could hook up my laptop so that it could be used as a Wacom Cintiq type of thing?
