Hello everyone, not sure if im posting in the right section but w/e.
My problem is this:I have 2 PCs,1 gaming and 1 slow
my gaming one uses Windows 7 SP1 ->HOST
the slow one uses XP SP3 ->CLIENT
Both are connected in LAN 100mbit only
My brother wants to play games together with me,but his "slow" pc won't run anything. So i need to make a remote connection from his pc to mine.

1.The first thing I have tried is TeamViewer but games were unplayable and even windows is jerky
2.The second program I tried is called Splashtop, windows runs very smooth, games run well, playable but not really enjoyable, can't say what the fps is since its running on the HOST,this is already quite impressive because intensive games otherwise wouldn't run at all on this CLIENT pc.

Question #1:
Which is the program that will give me the highest possible fps when remotely connected? pls link a benchmark or comparison if you can find,i couldn't.I have heard about Remotefx(not sure if related)VMware View,XenDesktop..etc.

Question #2:
When i connect to the HOST pc ,I start using the host mouse cursor, key combinations..etc,so if there is anyone infront of the HOST pc he can't do anything without interrupting me(on the CLIENT pc)Can 2 users, one on the HOST and one on the CLIENT use the HOST pc simultaneously??

Question #3:
The only thing that comes in my mind to fix the issue in previous question,is to make a Virtual Machine, but which one is best?? VMware or Parallels or others(highest fps).

Thats all, please help me out ! sry for the bad english :D

1) Are you wanting to let him play games on your computer over a remote connection? Unless you are playing a game that uses VERY low frame rate, it's not going to work well (if at all).

2) Server operating systems can allow multiple simultaneous sessions, but consumer operating systems don't.

3) A VM won't help, even if you could get one that could make good use of the PC hardware in order to actually play games, since use of the VM either takes control of the inputs away from the Host completely, or shares the inputs so you can still only use one at a time.

1)yes,this is exactly what im trying to do,and here is a video with splashtop playing skyrim on an ipad (connected to some pc) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leyx3pFzrHY and I am getting a bit worse performance, was thinking if it can improve

2) okay:)

3)what if I plug in 1 additional mice/keyboard and dedicate them to the VMware, and change settings to never lose focus of the vm,while still having the other mice/kb for the HOST

NVidia is releasing streaming software support soon which depending on your GPU might get this working at least for one of you playing (I doubt you can share a GPU playing two games at once on the same machine with it).

But realistically your not going to be able to do this, your brother might be better off with onlive or just buying a new machine.

hey guys,I actually made it :D Me and my bro play simultaneously on the host pc(he plays from his pc and connects to the VM in the host)
What I did:
1.Created a win7 VM using VMware Workstation on the host
2.Installed Splashtop in the VM and my bro's pc
3.Connected from my bro's pc to the VM via splashtop :)
When he connects to the VM it does not grab the input from the host,so thats awesome. We can both play in the host pc at the same time!
Windows is really smooth, can even watch 1080p videos, but gaming is not really :s maybe around ~20fps so its not really playable.
So my mission now is to improve performance...Any ideas?

Well, I think going through the VM is an added layer that will slow things a bit. Sorry, I don't have another solution for you. I have used Splashtop and it was the best performing of those I tried, but it's still not great. I'm waiting to see how Nvidia's new game streaming will work, but that still probably won't support two simultaneous users.

How old/slow is the other pc? I think you'd be better off looking for a cheap, used low-end GPU that should allow him to play on low settings with better response.

It won't help you now, but there might be something like this in the future:

The Steam Box will also be a server. Any PC can serve multiple monitors, so over time, the next-generation (post-Kepler) you can have one GPU that’s serving up eight simultaneous game calls. So you could have one PC and eight televisions and eight controllers and everybody getting great performance out of it.

hey ppl,I managed to run RemoteFX!! I installed win7 on the client pc and connected it to the VM.
It works!! I guess its not true what some said about only server 2012 being able to run it...
What I did:
Installed Windows 7 SP1 and downloaded RDP 8.0 update on both the VM and the client PC.
Enabled Intel VT-x in VMware on the host
Enabled RemoteFX via group policy settings
and voila! very smooth operation ,even games work fine! BUT i have i very nasty problem...mouse seems super accelerated when i open a game,it works fine in windows, but in the game "Aion" its super sensitive,i read online about other ppl having same problem, but found no solution, any ideas? :/

Glad to hear you got it working. No other tricks needed to get RemoteFX working without Windows server?
