Remote Backup Solution?

Family members and I had been using CrashPlan to back up to each other's computers (in addition to local backups). I'd like to keep a solution like this, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

SyncBack seems to have some reasonably priced software to use as the backup client.

I'm less sure about what to use as an FTP server on the "host" end. Would something like a Western Digital My Cloud work? Would a homegrown FTP server be a better solution? Are there any NAS solutions that might do the trick?

Better to back up to a hdd that you own and have dedicated for backup. Unacceptable security risk to backup to cloud.
