Hello Folks,
I want to start using Remote Assistant to remotely log into several machines. One of the remote machines is running XP and the other remote machine is running XP Home. I am running XP Pro. I read on the Micorsoft site that Remote Desktop is not available with XP home. To keep life simple, I think it makes sense to just use Remote Assistant.
The machines I am connecting to use Norton Software firewall. I have a Netgear Router and Norton firewall on my machine.
When one of the remote machines tried to connect to my machine for help, everything seemed to work but then I got a time out, host not responding message. I am pretty sure my Netgear Router was causing the time out. I checked Netgear's site and I think I need to open the following ports:
6901 MSN Messenger
6891 - 6900 MSN Messenger
3996 - 4000 Remote Anythinig
Sounds like a lot of ports to open. In the tech info that I found on Netgear, Ports 6901, 6891 - 6900 were ports to support MSN Messenger and Ports 3996 - 4000 were listed as ports that I need to open for "Remote Anything". I don't think Norton Firewall is the issue as Norton automatically creates rules.
Any comments or feedback is apprecaited. Thanks, Bill
