Remote Access: TightVNC Vs. Remote Assistance

How do they compare - I've just downloaded TightVNC. I haven't had a chance to use the Remote Assistance Feature on XP yet. Occasionally my inlaws requre tech support - it's much easier to get in remotely.

Suggestions, comments?

Prob the same thing - thats what the program group is listed as in windows.

I love vnc. Windows, linux, pretty much whatever wherever you need it. 🙂

I've never had a problem with it...

You have to have a password for it, I forget what kind of encryption it has on it...

if you do a search for vnc on google it'll bring up VNC's main site...

VNC is actually made by AT&T (don't know if that's good or bad 😉)

I've never used the Remote Assistance Feature, but if it is anything look the remote control feature in Netmeeting, I prefer VNC simply because it uses one port, which makes it easy to setup for firewalls and routers.

How is VNC over 56k? I installed it on mom's computer thinking that I could help her that way, instead of talking over the phone. I could never get the initial screen to load. I was talking to her on her cell phone and she said the cursor was moving and stuff, but I never saw a thing appear on my end.
