Remodeling Kitchen.

I?m looking at replacing the Kitchen cabinets & counter from Home Depot for a small kitchen, and I?m looking at $7000-8000 CAD ($5000-6000 USD). I replaced my 2 bedrooms & kitchen with hardwood/tiles for less than 2/3 that price. Why cabinets are so expensive?

That's a lot!

Personally, I'd just go and grab cabinets myself at that price and change them. Changing cabinets is not hard, but I can't speak for the spink since we haven't done that yet. I'd say change the cabinets on your own, not too hard.

THe flooring is a seperate issue and can be very easy. Check out their laminate flooring, even their cheapest ~$1/sq. ft. looks nice. Laminate flooring is VERY easy to install.

Are you willing to do it on your own? Maybe pictures of what your kitchen looks like right now would help

Cabinet boxes that are good are made out of prefinished 3/4" plywood and the faceframes are all solid along with dovetail drawers. I worked in a custom cabinet shop for a while and kitchens were very expensive through them. $20k would be on the low end but they have a 6 month waitiing list right now so they must be doing something right.

I wish I had the time and skill to do a proper Home Depot sign on and igloo with the tank parked out front.

That is the DIY price. The floor tiles that I do it myself are from Home Depot, but the kitchen backsplash are going to be from another shop that have much larger selection of tiles. And, the wood flooring are real engineer maple...I was looking at bamboo, but the price is a bit steep.

Sorry, I don't have a digital camera, because I still have serveral bags full of film cameras.
