tried one today.

it was a bit smaller and a lot less greasy than i expected. i didn't find it overly salty even though it has 1500mg of sodium (wow). i added fries and gravy to my combo and had a diet pepsi with it.

i'll probably have one again before it leaves Canada. i think it is around for another month or so.

Soooo, the Double Down is now KFC's most successful menu item ever in Canada: http://www.vancouversun.com/life/Do...+successful+menu+item+ever/3740376/story.html

It's been on sale for less than two weeks in Canada, but KFC Canada has already proclaimed the controversial Double Down its most successful new menu item ever with sales expected to top 350,000 bunless sandwiches by the end of October.
The Double Down, introduced in Canada last week, involves two pieces of bacon, two slices of cheese and sauce stuck between two fried chicken breasts. The hefty package comes in at an artery-clogging 540 calories, 30 grams of fat and 1,740 milligrams of sodium, KFC said.
Dan Howe, chief marketing officer for KFC franchisor Yum! Restaurants Canada, said the sandwich has been especially popular in Alberta and Manitoba.
"It's just been phenomenal for KFC, our customers and our franchise partners across the country," he said in a release.
Priszm Income Fund, which is the franchisee of KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut in Canada, needs all the help it can get after reporting another loss in its third quarter last week.
The company missed financial performance covenants on its loans in the most recent quarter, and has also run into trouble renewing franchise licences for 75 of its restaurants.
To scrounge up liquidity, Priszm is considering selling off some of its restaurants.
The Double Down was first introduced in the United States in April and sold more than 10 million sandwiches in a month.

Damn you Americans trying to turn us into fatties! :colbert: Be careful, if we get too fat we may crush you from above. :hmm:

Last I heard, Poutine was a Canadian invention.
I bet you guys secretly infiltrated KFC and invented the double down thing.

Hmmm, poutine is heart-cloggingly delicious, though it's Quebecois, not Canadian.

Last time I checked, Quebec is still part of Canada.... Speaking of Quebec, Unibroue is fvcking awesome too.

Now I crave a beer, but I have to attend a 2 hour conf call in 5 minutes ... ugh ... I hope they don't hear me snoring (my phone @ the office has no mute button!)

That is incorrect, they are not a part of Canada, they just reside within our borders. Unibroue is, however, quite excellent.

LOL @ the Frenchie hate. I'm willing to accept them as Canadian, if only for the fact that staying in the same country makes it easy when I go party in Montreal and pick up Quebecois girls one of these days.

And Unibroue does kick ass .

Heh, yeah, I'm just messing around. I mean, if not for Quebec, where would we get all of our homeless people? :hmm:

The Ontario government/nanny state has actually been mulling over banning the Double Down. The laugh is... it's better for you than a BK Wopper, which they have no problem with. I really need to get around to eating this beast.

I still don't understand how this thing can possibly only have 540 calories. Felt like about 1600 when I ate it.

excellent bump.... i'm quite pleased with the success of the double down here. i don't know why. maybe it's because a small slice of American fast food goodness has penetrated our borders, one that i was strongly looking forward to trying as soon as I heard about it but much to my dismay was only available in the US. it turns out that I wanted it so bad that my wish came true... it did not disappoint...

I had some trouble later on that day from the sheer amount of sodium I had ingested, but all I needed was Tums and a metric shit-ton of water (i also had fries and gravy with it... my buddies had theirs with chicken bowls last Sunday 0_0 )

and since we're on the topic of poutine... here is another pic from just this past Monday... I had to try a local restaurant called Frenchy's Poutinery. I had never heard of a place that sold JUST poutine so I had to try it immediately.

Here's my regular-sized poutine, topped with mushrooms and onions. All of their toppings are free, and all of the regular-sized poutines were 5 bucks, no tax. Notice the fresh cheese curds:

A couple more pics...

No, that isn't my van in the reflection... :hmm:

Fresh-cut fries in the window... *drool*

A shot of their menu stolen from their facebook page.... you can judge my excitement at seeing the menu by my naming of the jpeg...

Why? Two tiny pieces of chicken, two .5oz slices of cheese (a normal slice is 1oz, but they are small and thin on the DD), 1 small strip of bacon folded in half (sometimes cut in half), and a dab of mayo-based sauce.

The grilled one is a little better too, especially if you go without the sauce.

I still haven't had one. Should I?
If you like chicken, I don't see why not. Especially if you opt for the grilled version.
Look at it this way, there's not a single sandwich (non kids sized) at Panera Bread that has less calories than the fried DD, especially not less than the grilled one.
