It took you 90 min to bike 16 miles? :Q

>11mph average?

i saw some guy riding a bike on the 91 Freeway in Bellflower CA a few weeks ago.. he had a huge flag on the back and was waving his hands everywhere. held up traffic behind him of course

Wimp!! 😛

30 miles each way would be a pretty healthy commute. I think even I would only do that a few times a week since 60 x 5 = 300 and I'd still have training/racing on the weekends. 😕

A guy riding on the freeway, wearing a flag, and waving his hands is an idiot with a bike, not a cyclist. There's a difference. 😛

🙂 Understood, but this guy looked like he was high as a kite.. just the way he looked and was waving his hands around

Anyone call the cops on his ass? A bike on a freeway is just slightly illegal. 😛

People don't usually buy a new house every time they get a new job.

True, but a lot of people buy a house out in the boonies so they can have more money and just figure they'll "deal" with the commute. That's the thing I don't get.

I'm not sure. He was going a bit too slow to stay behind him, so i passed him up. I'm sure someone did, but everyone else's expression was pretty much the same as mine.. they were just laughing at him

Actually I am not sure if biking on the freeway is illegal. There are parts of the freeway that people can bike on. When I say freeway, don't automatically think downtown areas. There are long stretches of "freeways" that go over mountain passes, city to city.

I rode to work today with my roommate. Unfortunately they decided to close the bike path early. They said they would close it June 1st, but they did it yesterday. Anyway, this forced us to ride on the street. I hate this since each time I have to stop for something, I get nervous since I am clipped in. For some reason my right foot has a hard time getting in and out. It doesn't help that the SPD-SL pedals don't have any sort of balancing weight so sometimes they are upside down and you have to spin them around to get your foot in, all the while dodging traffic and trying to maintain enough speed with one leg pedaling so you don't lose your balance.

We made it to work fine though 🙂

If it's limited-access, bikes are a no-no. Otherwise, it just kinda depends on the speed limit and how wide the shoulder is.

The clipping in and out will get easier with practice. You'll be able to do it without even looking after a while.

If you're having a hard time clipping out, you might want to see where the release tension is set. Sometimes pedals come from the factory set weird.

We did that because I enjoy my acre and a half and quiet, undisturbed weekends and weekday nights. If I lived in the city, I'd be like like Nik

I would bike to work if I wasn't deathly afraid of being hit by a car.

That and I don't want to be all sweaty when I get to work.

I have been considering conditioning myself to be able to ride to work everyday but I don't think I am quite there yet. It is about a 20 mi ride and although the terrain wouldn't be to difficult I just don't think my legs could handle that kind of abuse.

Hopefully in about another month I'll be there!

I also would like to live outside of the city to some extent. Then I can burn my garbage in peace without those jerks making a fuss about it.

I biked to work THREE TIMES IN ONE YEAR (2001), 33 miles one way from Tampa to St. Petersburg! I did this only one-way and had a coworker drive me on the return leg. I had to take a sink bath and parts of downtown Tampa are scary.

Now that I got a real job I bike 3-6 miles depending on where I spend the night. We're in a new building and I *insisted* they build a shower/locker room. So no more sink baths!

Yeah, the "bird bath" in the sink is deeply unsatisfying. I have access to showers and a locker here so I just have to bring a change of clothes each day.

Amusing experience this am.

I'm leaving my neighborhood and am passed by a woman who also works for the CDC (saw the parking sticker on her car). 30 minutes later, I'm pulling into work.....right behind her.

Fausto: 1

Gridlock: 0

Woman: -1 (plus whatever the gas for her V8 Grand Cherokee cost)

On top of everything, I have slender, shapely thighs and buttocks thanks to the biking. 😛

Pfffffffffft....wuss. I do at least 200 miles per week on the bike in addition to my commuting. 😛

I actually did bike to work yesterday and today. My wife and I usually carpool, but she has a few days off, so I used the bike. 17 miles each way, and it takes me about 55 minutes to ride it, +/- 5 minutes.

Nice, that's a pretty good avg speed. 🙂
