I've decided in an effort to make the job of TSA agents easier that next time I fly I shall proceed through the screening process sans clothing.

Hope you enjoy cavity searches.

As for this, um, who's the genius that thought the day before Thanksgiving was a good idea to do this? I would be so happy if I was trying to fly home and missed my flight because a few people decide to make this a big deal and probably get the airport locked down (or at least cause significant delays).

I'm not a fan of this stuff either, but this is just stupid. So, you're going to buy a ticket and then not use it? What kind of sense is that?

i think thats the point. a lot of people are just going to take being searched like criminals going into a prison and some people think that its going way too far.

I agree, but id rather just not fly anywhere.

Yea its coem out that many people have already canceled their plane tickets for that week due to not only the new scanners/"patdown" but also those that are flying and not going to take it easy.

Go to the airlines facebook pages and other sites and you can see the mess that is brewing up. Let alone Janet Napolitano coming out and telling people to f-off and travel another way probable did not go very well with airlines.

I haven't flown in several years. It's getting to the point where I'll drive rather than go through the hassle of flying. and I know I'm not the only one.

too bad we don't have the option of high speed rail in most of the country. tho they'd screw that up too.

Meh.. I'm on the opposite side that I'd normally be on this issue.

Airlines are (relatively) private companies who offer a service. That service comes with preconditions and restrictions. One of those preconditions is that you have to be scanned to participate in their private service. Don't like it? Don't use their service.

*If* this was a Post Office or the IRS or some Government service that you pay for via taxes, then yes, you'd probably have a point with anti-privacy complaints. And the argument could be made that most Airlines receive huge Government subsidies, but for all intents and purposes, they are *not* a Government entity.

That said, I suppose you knuckleheads still have the right to refuse the scan, just like you'd have the right to walk into a McDonald's and try and order a steak. You're not going to get it, you're holding other people up, and they can ask you to leave, but if you really want to be a turd-burglar about it, go right ahead.

You do realize that the TSA, not the airlines, are the ones that require the “security”. Also the TSA IS a government agency supported by your tax dollars.

Security at airports is run by the TSA and is a government service supported by your tax dollars. Airlines, private companies, have no control over it.

I didn't see any of these scanners flying out of Portland on Sunday. If they have them in Newark I'll find out this afternoon.

I intend to request the pat down. From a female officer.

Why are people complaining? This is precisely what those "no profiling" people asked for. Since you can't discriminate between an Iranian and an 83 year old nun from Kansas City you have this situation.

You can't offend the few so you have to abuse everyone. Congrats.

I'll drive.

I'll admit, I don't follow the new in many cases as I simply can not stand the way things are reported and the biased opinionated reporting we have nowadays.

What exactly is the issue that is going on here? Why do people not want the body scans, and in turn, are subjected to body searches? (do I have that right?)

And what happens when they start using nuns to pull their shit?

For many, it boils down to let someone see through your clothes (main two points being health hazard of exposure to radiation and invasion of privacy) or get groped/molested by someone.

Figured as much. Thanks for the clarification.
Me personally? I don't give a shit if they full body scan me. I'm not a prude like that.

As for exposure to radiation? Really? I mean (again speaking ignorantly on the topic) how much radioation are they blasting you with? I could see if you flew 10 times a week or something, but a casual flyer? Meh...

The body scan machines they are using are effectively clothing removers. You are stripped naked by technology and people don't like that. The alternative? Have some TSA worker check your crotch to make sure that package is yours.

I wouldn't want to be a TSA worker for anything. They don't want to do this but since the government can do what it wants then you and they have to obey to keep their job and for you to travel.

I wonder how much it really is considering the pilots and crewmember of the aircraft must have to go through that constantly

HR, you are a bit off on a number of things.

1. Profiling. It just does not work. The 9-11 hijackers were not in turbans or hajib's (is that the right word?) They were dressed in dockers and polo shirts. They would not have been profiled unless you stopped everyone that was not a true cracker.

2. Full scan. True C4 is tiny. There are other thnigs it can be hiddenin in small quantities thatw ould be enough, when combined, to get the job done. If these guys wanted to they would do just that and render our new system useless.

3. People joke about "body cavity" but there you go. I do not believe that C4 needs O2 to go......

4. The 9-11 hijackers had no explosives or guns. I believe they had plastic knives? (I would have to check). the only reason they were successful is that we keep the pilots door open.

The problem with this is that it is robbing us of our own freedoms. Agreed that this is not something that is truly a freedom, but to be searched like this with no record (not that the hijackers had one) is rediculous.

Also, even the news is not playing fair. They brought up the example of the attempted package bomb when that was NOT carried by an individual and NOT on a passenger flight. It had NOTHING to do with the TSA scanning and yet it was mentioned several times as an example of attempted terrorism that this will somehow combat.

Question for you. How many attempts have been made in the past 9 years to hijack a plane flying out of a US airport, successful or not?

We are overspending on a hyper-inflated threat.

We might as well be putting up radio jammers in our houses to prevent the Red Threat from spying on us.....
