If you have an internet connection, just hit 'next' on the wizard. It should be automatic.

I tried that the first time, but it said a connection could not be made. I'll set up my connection and try again then

Aww, if your on a wireless or other network where you need configuration you'll need to do that before continuing (the work flow is kinda dumb that way)...

I should just be able to check the auto-detect box, like when i first set it up. I'm not at it right now, I'm in class, but i'll try again later

there are a few ways to activate. One is when windows finishes installing you just hit next until it is activated (simple enough if your internet is working correctly), next is to go through, if it fails finish anyways and then go and fix your internet connection. then it is start, all programs, accessories, (I think system tools, might just be in the accessories folder) then the activate windows Icon. That should work. The final way is to follow step two exactly then if it does not work you select the options that will have you call a representitive of microsoft. They will have a number there for you.

Wish I could be a little more detailed on how to get to the call microsoft option, but I have not had to do that very often. Hope this helps.

i think if you change you motherboard twice your license will be invalid and could not be activated via internet

That is complete BS, originally that was what the retail EULA said however after the outcry from the community Microsoft changed it back to unlimited reactivations like under XP.

really.. glad to hear that.. so I still can reuse my XP then... i thought it will no longer valid after my board broken...

I've swapped out my motherboard 3 times (along with cpu 3 times, a couple HD's, video cards, sound cards, RAM, etc.) and never had an issue reactivating XP (full retail version of XP Pro).

Once you get the system back up and running you will get a really annoying pop-up box stating you have 30 days to re-activate windows (with a button to click to do it).
