I've always thought of Remembrance Day as being more like the US holiday Memorial Day, celebrated by the US in May. Memorial Day is for remembering the people who died while serving in the US armed forces. Veterans Day honors military veterans; that is, all persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.

My husband served 20+ years in the US Army.

For Remembrance Day:

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1872 - 1918
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

For Veterans Day:

No, it wasn't always easy and it wasn't always fair
But when freedom called, we answered, we were there.

Both of those always give me goosebumps.

We only have the one day, which is today.

Thank you to your husband for his service.

Here's an interesting story from our local paper:

Lest we forget.

Thank you to all who have served, and serve today.
