I used an app on my phone to buy gas at Sam's club.

RF does not ignite gasoline.

RF NEVER ignites gasoline.

And if it did all the gas stations would have exploded decades ago.

Broadcast radio has been around forever.

Broadcast television almost as long.

And a bunch of other radio sources.

Not to mention the FUCKING SUN!

Aside from the fact than when your cell phone is turned on its always radiating a little bit. The amplitude goes up when you are in a call, but its always connected to the network, via radio.

So mostly, people are just stupid and paranoid.

I dont think there was ever any fear of RF igniting.
I thought the fear was that the phone could create a spark / heat from phone could cause ignition

i remember a PanAm stewardess telling me to turn off my tape walkman because it could interfer with the airplane's electronics.
I still have mine from 1980(?). Play button won't stay down but still works. IIRC, back then it was $100. I must have been a really good boy that year....

The minute some gas station forces me to install some stupid app just so I can put gas in my car, I'm not going to that station anymore. Sadly I think that's what a lot of EV charge stations require now too. So annoying. I don't like installing arbitrary crap on my devices and now they seem to be designing everything to force us to. It's all so they can spy on us and collect personal data. That shit needs to be illegal, it's taking over every aspect of our lives.

i would guess it's more so that people pay more attention and don't overflow their gas tank.

Yep, if that is forced, you damn right I'm done there. My burner phone is for pron only, not some gas stations app

Who actually claimed that they did?

A spark caused by static electricity from say, a touch-screen on a smartphone or the contacts on a volume-rocker switch however is another story.

But then I've actually seen mouth-breathing morons SMOKING CIGARETTES while pumping gas so the fact that I have to say this isn't surprising to me at all.

🙄

I also leave my car running while I pump gas.

Natural selection at work? 😉

I think with strong enough RF you could probably ignite gasoline. Now I'm kinda curious what happens if you microwave a cup of gasoline. 😀

Please be sure to record if/when you try this! 😛

I would guess the risk of fumes igniting from an internal spark in the MW would be more likely than heating the gas sufficiently for it to explode.

(place camera at least 20 feet from oven to escape blast-radius just in case I'm mistaken!)

Well Sam's Gas requires membership to buy gas, thus I'm sure your freeDUMs mandate you not have a membership there or at Costco. And they DO NOT ACCEPT CASH.

You sound like the sovereign citizens screaming about their freeDUMs. Furthermore, you are free to fucking buy gas elsewhere. Your fake outrage is laughable. But you don't drive anyway, as you ain't going to knuckle under to the systems requirements for being licensed, having a tag and insurance on your car... or did someone just lick the red off your candy when you posted your little rant?

I'm confused .... are you arguing in favor of needing to use an app on a smartphone to buy gas?

😛

I've long since given up worrying too much about "Big Brother" since Google et-all already knows the vast majority of our darkest secrets but stuff like that is just annoying. (also REALLY dumb in the case of pumping gas specifically)
