Well I've got a small mouse problem in my new home and am doing some research on the net... apparently that actually is one of the best ways to "dispose" of the mouse since it makes them fall asleep and then die. There's also the electronic traps that basically shock the rodent to death instantly. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get rid of these little bastards. I'm getting tired of their crap. Literally. hehe
Anyway I'm thinking I'm probably going to go with a live trap like the Tin Cat mouse trap since I've heard the cheap regular traps rarely work since the mice are quick to get away. Only problem is what to do with em once I get them trapped... I could take them back in my backyard and let them go but that means they'll just follow me back to the house and right back inside they go. So I'd probably consider the freezing them overnight and then throwing them away the next day method.
OR before I get jumped on 😉
I may also consider the releasing them in my backyard method after I put some of that mouse repellent around my house that the mice won't cross over.
Ofcourse there's always submersing them in water for 20 minutes... for the days when they really piss me off... :Q 😉

Any of you guys "experts" on mouse removal? Any other suggestions?
Just don't say get a cat, I had enough of those growing up. 😉

The only problem with the classic mouse traps is that if it hits them in the right spot guts fly out of their mouth and its not fun to clean up. One method that we discovered by accident is that they'll find their way into a half-full pale of water then drown. It works really well. If you use the poison, they eat it then go and die somewhere in the house potentially stinking up the place. The only way is to kill them. If you let them go near your house they'll find a way back.

I've seen the guts thing quite a few times. My dad hates mice and puts traps out in his backyard. I remember going out with him checking them as a kid 🙂

This method is not as kind as you think. Being warm-blooded, the mouse's body tries to maintain its body temperature. Have you ever been out in the cold so long your fingers and toes actually started to really hurt? The freezer method causes much suffering before the mouse "falls asleep."

On the other hand, I have read that this method is acceptable for cold-blooded creatures such as fish. Don't quote me on this, however.
 
Well since "no mercy" has come up a couple of times on both of the forums I posted this on I guess I'll have to be a little meaner than I'd like. 😉
But I'd rather not poison them... I can deal with their little turds that don't smell... I don't want to deal with the smell of rotting mouse in my walls.

I prefer the catch and release method, but that's just me. I feel bad for the little critters.

We had actual rats in my house once and poisoned them, and it was really sad to watch them walk into walls and writhe in pain when the poison didn't work well enough, or fast enough. I'll never do that again. I think you should catch them and release them somewhere away from your house.

They are a living thing and don't know they are doing anything wrong, they just know it's warm and there is food there. I don't do what I wouldn't want done to me. And no, I don't value them more than my own life, but I do reguard any living creature with the same respect i'd want if I were them, and thank god i'm not. Every creature serves a purpose in my eyes. By the way, i'm an athiest, not some bible thumping PETA person, just compassionate.
 
When I was a kid and I found trapped live mice I'd first poke their eyes out with a needle, then live roast them with a lighter. Yep, I was a demented little kid 😛
 
Beat... I think you have a good future as a serial killer. 😉

How's this for a plan:
Materials needed:
1 4 gallon bucket
1 small piece of styrofoam (or anything that floats)
1 spoonful of peanut butter
1 homemade ramp

Fill the bucket 1/2 way with water.. place peanut butter on the styrofoam and let that float around inside... mouse walks up the ramp trying to get some water and/or peanut butter and voila...
I was reading on a guys site earlier about his war against the mice and how the mouse soldiers weren't well trained in the art of SCUBA 😉
 
Darn! I was going to post the Harvey the Mouse must die link but it looks like it is gone. Does anyone know if it has been moved.
 
If your going to use a live trap why not get a few of them and let them go in a field somewhere or at someone you don't like's house?

freezings better then those sticky traps😛 thought they would be somewhat human till i tried one. mouse was stuck so well to it i bet i woulda broke it if i tried to remove it😛 ended up having to knock it out and then putting it out of its misery via hammer to the skull. gross. snap traps are just gross too😛
 
A friend of mine was having mice problems, and the only traps that worked for him were these plastic ones that have a sensitive lever in them that you put peanutbutter on. They're sort of V shaped and the mouse has to crawl half way in to get the peanutbutter. There's no way they can pull back fast enough to avoid having their back snapped and being killed instantly.
They also make it really easy to dispose of the dead mouse, since it's sort of designed like a clothespin in that you can squeeze down on one end to make the other end open up...meaning you never have to touch the dead mouse.

Wish I knew what those things were called.
 
Get those big rat traps that snap. That will be sure to break his neck and he won't get away. I caught a big mouse in a regular mouse trap and it didn't snap his neck. He walked (or rolled) away with the trap still on him. When I checked that night, the trap was gone. I found it off the balcony with the mouse still moving. A quick smack to the head with a 2x4 finished him, but next time I'm getting a rat trap to do it right.

IMHO mice are just disease-ridden vermin. Deal with them as quickly and painlessly as you can, but (again IMHO) no reason to let them live. You could get a cat 🙂

Get a big box and divide the inside into sections. Put a mouse in each section. Write 'Death Row' on the outside of the box. There now its legal and humane. Execute at your leisure.
