Doom3 = pretending to shoot pretend monsters.

Programming = solving difficult problems while creating useful tools that make people's lives easier.

If you think this forum is bad try the video forum. It's supposed to be about video dicussions but the bulk of its threads should be in software. It also has more Doom III threads than software does!

Unfortunately the mods don't appear to care about off topic posting or trolling which is why I just don't bother complaining about it anymore.

Doom 3 took over!

Anyhow, Programming is constructive (usually) but Doom3 is not of course.

Making people's lives easier just allows them more time for entertainment. Doom3 = entertainment. The end goal of anything in life is self-gratification...

The problem is deciding how broad or detailed you want to get.
You could even split it up into 3 separate forums because they are really 3 separate topics.

But then you have the problem of not having as many people browsing the area that you post in and so you have less chance of getting a question answered. I'm sure that there have plenty of times when a programmer was browsing this forum because they were interested in the latest game and just happened to see one of my programming questions and had an answer for me.

It's really a balance between being so broad that your thread gets missed and being so narrow that very few members browse the area.

I do agree though that there are probably enough programmers here to support a separate forum.
There really is a difference between software use and software development.
