That Ford spot near the opening of the show was pretty funny but the last SNL was basically terrible.

Weekend Update remains my favorite part of the show but its even lost its luster without Amy Poelher.

The problem with SNL for the last 30 years is that they take a skit that's funny for about 30 seconds to 1 minute and milk it for 3 - 5 mins.

1995 was their funniest year since the beginning and they all got fired. SNL has been awful for 14 years. I honestly dont know anybody who watches it. No idea how it continues to survive.

MadTV used to be funny then now it's just shitty. Is it even on today?

Miss Swan & Stewart bits were hilarious.

SNL has always been hit or miss (a lot) for me. For every good skit there were 5-6 terrible skits. To his credit Will Ferrell had the best success rate in skits.

I can always go back to Celebrity Jeopardy when I need a pick me up.

it's never been funny, it's that you've forgotten most of the bad skits from years ago and you're left with just the funny ones.

wait, what? 0_o

you've forgotten the bad skits.

snl has always been a mix of a few good skits and a vast majority of steaming crap. if you've forgotten about the steaming crap then you're remembering the good stuff, and it seems like it was better. but it wasn't.

One of those shows that people will always say "used to be funny". There's an SNL rant every week. It's still a funny show. If you don't like it, don't watch.

so it's "never been funny".... but some of the skits were "good", ie. funny. gotcha.

agreed with Fenix...it was never really funny, but it had it's moments. Go watch an episode from the 70s and 75% is forgettable.

People that say any popular show is "not funny" are people that don't watch it and want to jump on some kind of "people like this so I will therefore hate it" bandwagon.

SNL has had some hit and miss shows. It had a LOT of them in the period the OP posted. It was even worse during the early and mid 80s.

The last few years have had some of the best SNL skits actually. Zach Galifianakis's opening last week was an instant classic (skip ahead to 3 minutes if you're impatient)

or Lawrence Welk gets creepy:

or Christopher Walken and the census taker:

Alec Baldwin is always win:

http://www.hulu.com/watch/4156/saturday-night-live-nprs-delicious-dish-schweddy-balls

and countless others. The problem with today's viewing audience is they watch too many 2 minute YouTube clips that they can turn on and off instantly. The result is a short attention span, and if every single show is not top notch, the show becomes "Not as funny as it used to be." There are plenty of classic things on SNL still being made, it's just that it somehow became fashionable to say "it's not funny".
