Remember when Apple said people didn't want huge 4in+ phones?

I don't know why people think a 4.3 inch phone is hard to carry around at all. I carry about scientific calculators in my pocket just fine as well as my Droid X. Are skinny jeans really that popular or something?

I can't live without the bigger screen. Screw Pixel Density when I have my 4.3 inch screen. I would even love a 4.5 in screen.

On my second 4.3 inch screen phone now. Don't think I can ever go back, it's so much more pleasant to use than a smaller screen device.

I'm wondering what the official walkback is going to be when the big iPhone5 hits.

(And what about "Retina"? Or is Apple planning on going all FRAGMENT with 720p or something...)

I think they're just making the screen larger while keeping the device the same size. Even with that change they'd still be at about ~290 ppi, which isn't too shabby.

Steve never said specifically what size was considered "big". At the time of his statement the largest phone was a 4.3" device. If the iPhone 5 is 4" then his statement still holds true, but if it turns out to be 4.3", then he was wrong.

An iPhone with a 4" screen with the iPad's resolution of 1024 actually turns out to be 300+ dpi. This would cut down on fragmentation and while still being able to increase the iPhone's screen real estate and resolution.

I would love a 4.3" as its awesome to use, but I also love the retina display, so we can't win em all. Mark my words though, the first to have a 4" or 4.3" retina display will be the king of smartphone displays.

there won't be any, he'll introduce the new phone and whatever he said before won't be mentioned except by bloggers who need something to write about

I went from 2.5" to 5" and it hurts me that I'll eventually have to settle for something around 4.5" (apparently nobody else is interested in making a 5" anymore)


(there's a couple of jokes in there somewhere :D)

I'll defend it from a marketing perspective. Apple doesn't offer a 4.3" phone. Therefore no one wants one, at least that's what I would also say if it were my product.

I think Jobs's remarks were most likely directed at the physical size of the devices. A few people have already figured out that you can put a 4" screen on a device the size of the iPhone without actually making the device larger. If you look at it that way, Apple might be able to have their cake and eat it too.

The iPad has a different aspect ratio than the iPhone, so simply using it's resolution would change the device. It would make it a look a lot fatter.

For smartphone, here is how I'd pick the right size: when holding in hand, thumb should reach the furthest upper corner without moving phone in hand. I'd say 4" is the limit for me.

Love the 4" screen on my Vibrant. 4.3 or 4.5 would be nice if it is in the same form factor. But I think only apple has room on their form factor to hit 4" max.

I have a Droid X for my personal phone, and an HTC Freestyle for my work phone. Out of the two, I prefer the Freestyle's overall size. It's a bit smaller than I'd prefer, but the Droid X is just way too massive, especially with tablets becoming so popular.

IMO, the Samsung Fascinate is right around the perfect size.
