What function did that serve?

Remember when all the bottles were glass?
Remember when they moved from 12 ounce, to 16, to 20?

Why the fack do I remember? I never cared about this shit. I have no emotional attachments to such memories.

We used to play football using those two liter bottles. They were indestructible. Remember when they first came out and you could buy a two liter of pop for 84 cents. You still can. Weird.

You can buy a generic for $0.84 but the name brands are now all well over a $1.00 unless you catch them on sale (usually for $1.00).

Every now and then you can catch Coke or Pepsi at 5 for $4.

If you want to go way back, anyone remember the days before the plastic bottles with plastic caps on the base? When Pepsi first came out with a 2 liter bottle it was actually glass surrounded with a thin styrofoam liner.

I used to pay 25 cents for a 16oz glass bottle...or maybe it was 20oz, not sure. Then we took the bottles back and got, i think it was 5 cents per bottle or maybe they did it by the case, not sure. Just dropped it in the large bin at the super market.

What really sucked was not having a bottle opener, those caps were thicker, heavier duty metal back then.

I grew up as a poor African child, and we used them for shoes.

They used to sell beer in those 16oz glass bottles with the thin styrofoam liner. I remember seeing people in Texas driving around drinking those.

I like how 20oz sodas are now more expensive that two liters. The 'rape you in the ass because we can' convenience tax.

Essentially, you're paying for it to be cold...but the person making it cold isn't getting the extra money, Coke is.

Suck a dick, Coke.

Sometimes they will have the cold 2 liters too. I remember in Disney, that I carried around the 2 liter all day because the difference was like .10 with the 20 oz in the hotel restaurant thing.

What caps on the bottom... pics?

I can't find any with google. Probably have to find an old ad or something.

Instead of the little 'feet' made into the bottle, there used to be an opaque cap with a flat bottom that was attached. Like two inches tall, maybe?

I don't have anything to really contribute, but I was in the store a weeks ago or so and looked down the soda aisle and thought the same thing. What happened to the black caps on the bottom of 2-liters?

Remember when pop came in cans that were almost as rigid as a soup can, and it was a display of strength to be able to flatten one with one hand?

It seems like they've gotten thinner, for sure, but I don't remember this. Were they still aluminum?

Also, random as hell question: has anyone actually ever made cans out of tin?

Canned food still comes in what are commonly called 'tin cans,' and I seem to remember aluminum cans being called the same as a kid (then we got proper for some reason).

...how old are you? I can barely remember the caps. Mostly, I seem to recall them on 'lesser colas,' probably no later than the mid 90's. I'm pretty sure Coke had moved to the one-piece bottles by then.
