They upped the quality of videos to support 720p, hence the larger player size.

Do the HD videos on YT skip for anyone else, or is my computer just a POS?

Skips on mine but then mine is an old POS. Had to switch it to normal quality to watch the video.
 
Of course I do. There's nothing else that picks me up after a rough day at work quite like a tall glass of purple stuff.
