Can you use SIMMS and DIMMS concurrently if the
mobo supports both kind of RAM.

The mobo has a some cyrix cpu in it.

It's my understanding that, no you can't. It's one or the other. I've heard of, but never seen, boards that can use both at the same time. I believe they are pretty rare though.

Most of those boards with both types of memory support 5v SDRAM rather than 3.3v SDRAM.

I recently tried to upgrade on two Epox boards..P55-BT and the P55-TV2
I had to take the SIMM out of both before they would post the right DIMM memory I had (64M).. also I had to use PC66 memory instead of PC100.. just would not recognize the right amount

I have an old computer lying about - uses a gigabyte mainboard. Has a pair of 16MB edo simms and a 32MB pc66 sdram dimm giving 64MB system memory. Never had any memory related issues at all.

Its a bad idea to run both as if you plug in simms, then your dimms will be ran at 5.5 Volts. So you would need to find some 5.5 Volt Dimms.

It depends on the mother board. A few can use different voltages on the SIMM and DIMM slots. You would have to set the SIMMs to 5V and the DIMMs to 3.3V (unless they are old EDO or something). The only board I ever saw that supported both at once was a Tyan Titan Turbo. Most mother boards can only send 1 voltage to the SIMM and DIMM slots. That means that you will be running your 3.3V DIMM at 5V. :Q I would reccommend not doing that.

you could run it if you were running a 5 volt dimm on the old tx / vx boards. I know the fic va-503+ had simms annd dimms and you could use both at the same time as long as you didnt stick it in the shared bank

i have a giga-byte board in my old 200MMX system, and i ran 2 32 meg PC-100 dimms that i got from worst buy and 2 simms in it.. all at the same time. i ran the dimms from sugest to december, and never had a problem with it, i still use thoes dimms, but on a BX board now. i couldnt fill all the SIMM slots, it wouldnt recknise (sp?) the first dimm.. so the dimm #1 slot and simm #'s 3 and 4 were shared
