Slow as hell? They do 12mph (with the high speed key), 15mpg if they are the commercial model. I have two at the ranch, use them to run errands around the property. To be fair, got them cheap from Brookstone. They stopped carrying them and my old neighbor was a district manager so was able to get me the demo models (after refurb) really cheap.

Damn Segway riders! I get stuck gehind them on my Bicycle on the way to work ALL THE TIME! Why can't they get over to the side?? :| My Boss chewed me out for being late, so I blamed it on all the damn Segways I got stuck behind. He told me he didn't care about my journey and it wasn't his problem. My boss is such a dick. Next time I'm gonna ram the Segway off the road with my uber light road bike.

LOL

I love watching the security folks at BWI on those things.

Was watching them train a nublet back in February, they took him to the international arrivals waiting area because it's the least busy part of the airport, and that just happened to be where I was. They do NOT, however, wear helmets.

And for everyone saying these things are slow - whoever you've seen riding them didn't have any balls or wasn't in a hurry. The commercial (i.e. cops and security) version can do 15mph flat out, and the normal version can do like, 12.

I remember W falling off one. :Q

The terrorists will develop a remote control to make all of them go apeshit and run all the cops in a big circle and into each other.

In the old days when they had foot patrols, a scofflaw carried a bag of marbles with them.

Yeah, I can do 15 into a pretty strong headwind on a bad day. 20mph on flat roads is not too difficult. 12mph is slow as hell on a road bike.

Bah, the one I passed was flat out and I didn't have any trouble catching and passing him. BTW-Did I mention this dork was riding it on a designated bike/jogging path? There are signs at all the entrance points that no motorized vehicles are allowed on the path.
