Remember the complaints about militarization of police under Obama?

Looking forward to news reports of "inner-city" neighbourhoods being patrolled by armoured vehicle.

i'll still complain about it. though, it seems you were fine with it under Obama but are now complaining because your person did not win?

He's complaining that some of the steps Obama took to reduce militarization of police are being reversed, specifically the restriction on police buying military equipment.

Many of us here complained about it then as well. Remember all the pictures of huge army like vehicles.

It appears the problem will only be getting worse:

What I find alarming is that the pentagon has so much left over "toys" and that they are supplying local governments with these toys. What do you think will happen when your local police get a tank or high caliber weapons? Paint them like hippie buses?

Drug busts have also turned into a revenue generator. Does anyone see a problem with that? Police shouldn't exist to make money for the government.

Cut the pentagons budget, don't authorize the purchase of new equipment and at the very least this will slow down the increasing presence of "warrior/militarized" police.

Here was another fun one.

I'm thinking about that commercial where the guy gathering golf balls with his caged up machine on the driving range becomes a prime target for the guys taking practice shots at the time and I'm seeing these armored up vehicles getting the same treatment as they patrol the 'hoods, except alley apples, empty bottles and maybe a molotov cocktail or two on those hot summer nights when the moon is full are the preferred greeting card missiles of choice.

Um right.... free in this case meaning paid for by the taxpayers for our military. Does the military use this stuff for a week or two before dumping it?

It was purchased for an ongoing occupation of Iraq, which didn't happen. Troop drawdowns in Afghanistan meant less use for it there, as well. The whole WoT has been an excellent excuse for Congress to pork out the military.

MRAPs in particular make fine toys for podunk cop shops to drag out every once in awhile like antique fire engines for a parade. Other than that, they're pretty useless. Can't afford to use 'em very often, either, because parts are muy expensivo.

What exactly is the purpose of this beast in a police force? It looks like the thing has an exhaust snorkel and a turret.

These are the new MUV's of police forces across the country.

Its used to drive through liberal tears as they cry over statues and to shoot antifa protestors who try to stop them.

Or its for handling big, scary, black kids playing with toy guns.

Or it can be used by law enforcement officials with little tiny penises to pull over hot women in order to try and impress them with their huge toy.

But mostly they are used to prop up the military industrial complex.

I was against it then and am against it now. I think most dems, at least on here, have always been pretty consistently against militarization of the police.

Even at "free" these stupid things cost a fortune to run and maintain. These POSes should be sent to the dessert and mothballed until we go back to Iraq in 2025.

I figure they're mostly for parades...

Yeah, great parade:

This crap does not belong on our streets. And even to keep it running for the annual parade isn't cheap and is a complete waste of resources. But when people get toys, they figure out ways to justify them.

Edit: Found them in their parade formation:

Not that I agree with civilian deployment, but that's a much smaller vehicle with some limited practicality.

So on the one hand, the US likes to export the brutalities of its prison system. And in the other direction it brings the mentality and the tools of military occupation back home to domestic policing. A fearful symmetry there.
