In that thread someone compared AT to a site called FARK. Apparently AT is quite smaller than FARK. It's also been suggested, when it's brought up that Anantech forums might not grow anymore due to newcomers having to experience the slowness of the nonsubscription forum and therefore wouldn't bother to register or join, that maybe Anand doesn't want the forums to grow anymore due to the fact that he's losing money on them. I was just wondering if maybe FARK is doing something that Anand has overlooked to be able to be so big without having to resort to selling subsriptions to offset the loss of running such a big site.

In no way am I being critical here. I'm just curious. Obviously I'm missing a piece of the puzzle.
 
I'm sure Anand and the boys have everything under control.

For some reason I don't think the slowness is going to be forever.
 
this is the kind of post that makes Anandtech PRICELESS Mod's aren't in here in two seconds locking and deleting for fear of criticism. THEY DON'T HAVE TO! This forum speaks for itself. The quality of people here and the mod's speak for it. I've only been here a short while, but from the way that I've seen mod's act and the members here, THIS place is where it's @. Who cares if more ppl don't join. They would just eat up the bandwidth that's here right now! 😉 hehehehehe.

Really, even IF the owners fix the bandwidth problem or NOT, I think that this site is just kinda where it's @ for me, simply b/c I can post ALMOST ANY question on here and get @ LEAST an opinion (or 12), if not FACTUAL answers! WAHOOOOOOOOOOOO! 😉

It seems that fark has more users, and those users dont refresh their front page every 10 seconds like addicted at people do. Saves alot of bandwith.

also it seems that the fark comment system is run off a different server, and that bit is getting slower and slower.


And another thing, Drew on fark runs this "rule fark for a day" thing every once in a while which makes him about $500 each time.
 
There really is no response to this question, as the question is based on pure fiction.

This has been covered time and time again. No we are not missing anything, we are ensuring a reputible entitiy exists for a very long time. Basing a question on fiction doesn't make much sense, especially "number of users", since that has nothing to do with traffic or bandwidth consumption
