I cant wait to see if it crashes all three of my rigs trying to open it!

The 1.4tbird with 1.5gb pc2100 should do just fine I hope...

Kazaa w/limited # of simultaneous download would be the better way to do it I think. Give it a name we can easily search for.

How fast you can open the image will depend on how much (or lack of) memory your system has, I'm thinking? My lappy only has 256mb ram, so it'll choke on the hard drive quite a bit?

In that case, ME WANT!!!

Finally, a chance to put these 1.7 gigs of RAM to good use :D

Also, I'll put it on my web server once I download it from someone. 128kbit upload speed but every little bit helps I guess :)

I have two tif files, one of the western hemisphere, and one of the eatern hemisphere. They're each 21,600 pixels square. I will be stitching them together into one high quality jpeg file, which will probably be around 150 megs. I'll also make the original tifs avaialble, if possible. I'll know more on sunday, when I can actually look at the files.

Well, with the 15MB JPG of ground-zero we could pick out small objects, so I'm guessing it would be pretty close! :D

Use WinRAR and break it into five chunks using RAR high compression. You sure it's in jpeg format? I have never seen jpeg of that size, TIFF's I have. TIFF's can be compressed considerably with WinRAR and if all goes well you might be able to make it into 5 x 80-90MB file. Splitting files should also reduce unnecessary transfer, because if something goes wrong, they only have to re-download that section.

21000 pixels square for a hemisphere. That sounds like about 1 pixel per half mile to me. Still interesting to see, but I don't think you'll be picking out your house.

That sounds about right, 4.47 pixels per square mile.

Can't forget the sheer size of the object you're photographing.

If somebody can get it in a place where I can download it, I can help distribute it on CD.

I went upstairs, and I realised that idea is feminine, and i was meaning, he has a good idea, so Él tiene una buena idea. Because you take off the o when it's a masculine thing after it.....Damn, and I'm only in Spanish 3/4 :D
