The optical mice work perfectly fine for us... dozens of them in production and not a complaint. Our 3yr old legacy MS mice are starting to fail though...

That's funny. Not to be overly critical of Dell's mice, but I have, in my hand a MS intellimouse 1.1 (just plain old ball mouse w/ wheel)...still going strong. I'd like to see how a dell mouse holds up after a decade of use.

For those of you who say you are using Dell mice, take a moment, and flip your mouse over. Does it say "Dell" on the bottom or was it made by another company?
Just curiosity, as no one else seems to have the problems I do with them.

Yes, black with silver buttons (optical) and black on black (ball), made by Dell, work fine.

Oh don't get me wrong we have plenty of MS mice that are still chugging along happily and I still have a 1.1 at home too... and I think a busted 1.0 (shoulda had it replaced free-of-charge but I was lazy).

I'm only saying that the new "Dell made" mice I've had no problems with. Generally speaking, I can't think of a BAD mouse we've had except for some cheap no-name crap we had laying around.
