If you don't have anything to hide, then I don't see why you need to oppose or be affraid of this technology. It's there for one reason, your protection and the protection of others.

<< think again...I just saw a report that showed some new technology that can pretty much see thru clothing and at least see the body sculpture or the texture of your body under the clothing... the images sorta look like how someone looks naked in the dark >>

kamian just described the ultrasound technology designed for security work. It can be adjusted to 100,000 levels of sensitivity to do a complete scan of a person to see exactly what they have on their persons.

<<They can aim a laser at a window and record conversations though. Has to do with the panes vibrating with the voices.>>

Yes, this does exist. And they have metal beads that they can put into concrete that vibrate enough for radio waves to pick up conversations, too. The Soviets bugged all of the concrete in the former US Embassy in Moscow with these bugs. It created a situation where the US decided to just totally scrap the old embassy for a new one.

this type of logic is flawed because this technology as well as anything this type of arguement is used for can be abused and used to hurt innocent people...its happened before

<< Infrared doesn't see through the walls, dork. The house that got busted had huge heat pockets in the basement. The police could NOT see what actually was happening in the house. Sheesh, get your urban myth-believing butt caught up to reality. >>

Not true. I was speaking specifically about carnivore (though other methods do apply). The only time it is really used is if it found something to set it off. True, it scans all messages through the 'net, but it's not like someone is sitting at a desk reading your email: unless you are suspected of something. Same goes for this rinkerdinker infrared tech. They're not going to use it on you unless you are suspected of something. These things are not ment nor used to expoit us as individuals. Your relating it to a mass search is completely on the radical side of the point.

not like we don't have satalites that can zoom in on coins on the ground. GPS is used to track your position, but only you with a GPS receiver can do that, not the stuff in space. Heh, in may 2000 the government turned off SA so that GPS for civilians would be much more accurate, will they turn it on again?

About those Sony cameras, they could only do it when a person came out of the water and was a big difference in temperature between the body and clothes.

might as well add that it is not wise to inform the general public about spy technology and at the same time educate the lawless.

Think about it. If we can get a satelite photo of that guys house who stole the monitor and won't give it back from just going to some website. I would hope that the FBI and CIA have something that can blow that away in terms of sophistication. I would be scared to think that Joe Shmo can use the same technology as the FBI does to track down criminals.
